How do I get the broken cord out of my lawnmowers cord housing to replace it ?

Tecumseh pull start . I was just going to replace a broken handle but my knot slipped & the cord went inside. I tried to use pliers and squeeze the two tips together in the center of the wheel thinking I'd push it through & release the unit from the housing but I broke off a tip trying that .

You will need to remove the crank housing, probably 3-4 bolts. Then you can remove the rope, rewind the starter and reinstall a"new" rope. You might try to search youtube "How rewind lawnmower starter". If nothing else, once you get the housing off (3-4 bolts) take it to your local lawnmower repair shop, he can fix it in just a few minutes.
